New Features

Features intentionally added to the games themselves, beyond what the original cartridges shipped with:

  • Survey zoom with connected-map rendering and configurable void fill
  • Perspective tilt mode for an HD-2D-style overworld
  • Multiple color modes, including original, SGB, advanced GBC, monochrome, and classic green
  • Optional GBC screen effects, including pixel grids, shadows, glare, and transparency
  • Performance presets and configurable FPS limits
  • V-SYNC row and a DISPLAY frame cap, for panels whose refresh is not a multiple of 60Hz
  • LOGIC CLOCK option (60HZ or the cart's 59.73HZ vblank rate) on every game's options screen
  • Peer-to-peer LAN link play for trades and battles between Red, Blue, and Yellow
  • FireRed/LeafGreen online over the relay (Union Room, Direct Corner, wireless minigames, PIN-locked private matches, in-game invites)
  • FireRed/LeafGreen Mystery Gift on the main menu after the first save: WONDER NEWS right away, WONDER CARDS once the questionnaire passphrase is in
  • Optional widescreen battle layout
  • Pokédex diploma and printer image exports
  • Fast-forward locks to 1X in link play, every link or online battle, link session and the FireRed/LeafGreen Union Room on every game
  • 40-player Union Room on FireRed and LeafGreen online, a larger square room where every trainer keeps a fixed spot and anyone can be talked to
  • Name badges over trainers in Gen 3 link rooms (Union Room, Trade Center, Colosseum, Record Corner, Berry Blender), your own included
  • Chat, trade and battle icons on those badges, so a busy trainer is visible at a glance
  • Idle Union Room trainers wander, a few steps around their spot and back
  • Cross-generation Union Room online for every game: Gen 1, 2 and 3 players share one 40-player room, each shown with their own game's sprite and a circled 1/2/3 badge
  • Union Room in Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold, Silver and Crystal upstairs in every Pokémon Center, on by default; Launcher Options -> Union Room OFF restores the original Centers
  • Union Room in Ruby and Sapphire, a door added to every Pokémon Center 2F
  • Cross-generation battles under one Gen 3 ruleset limited to the older game's Pokémon and moves, with substitutes, move fixes and type-covering rentals that never touch the save
  • Cross-generation trades with both players shown every permanent change before confirming, journaled so an interrupted trade finishes exactly once
  • Translation mods stay online on Gen 3: mods that only change text, fonts, names or visuals can still link, trade and battle
  • Button remapping on every game: OPTION -> CONTROLS (keys, pads, L/R on FireRed/LeafGreen/Emerald, fast-forward buttons)
  • Full controller support: both thumbsticks move and navigate menus, and stick directions, triggers, stick clicks and extra SDL buttons can be bound in CONTROLS
  • Duplicate a save slot from the launcher, a one-tap independent copy for backups or trimming a save before export
  • Bank-style Box migration from Gen 1 and 2 to Gen 3: nature from EXP, three perfect IVs (five for Mew and Celebi), EVs reset, second ability when there is one
  • EXP-to-nature helper in Box migration, showing how much EXP each nature needs before a Gen 1 or 2 Pokémon moves to Gen 3
  • Box item stash: store bag items in Box, send them to another game's bag, give or take held items and change a Gen 3 Pokémon's ball
  • Unown form picker in the save editor on Gen 2 and Gen 3, keeping HP DV, nature and shininess where the cart allows

Gen 2 Specifics

  • Buena points editing in Crystal's save editor: Trainer and Items / Wallet edit the Blue Card balance from 0 to 30, with numeric validation and Undo/Redo
  • Battle screen options on Gold, Silver and Crystal: BATTLE SIZE (fixed or window-filling) and BATTLE BG (white, black or the dimmed map as the surround)
  • Widescreen battle layout on Gold, Silver and Crystal: BATTLE LAYOUT -> WIDE spreads the HUDs and bottom windows across a 304-wide screen
  • Extended battle HUD on Gold, Silver and Crystal: BATTLE HUD -> EXTENDED docks the WIDE layout's foe panel to the top of the window and the text area and player panel to the bottom
  • Event tickets on Emerald: OPTION -> EXTRAS -> EVENT TICKETS lets the Lilycove Mystery Gift man hand out whichever of the Eon, Aurora and Mystic tickets and the Old Sea Map the relay is currently distributing
  • Relay Mystery Events on Ruby/Sapphire: MYSTERY EVENTS loads signed e-Reader events (Eon Ticket, gift ribbon) from the relay instead of a link partner
  • Wonder News on Ruby/Sapphire: relay Wonder News is listed and saved under MYSTERY EVENTS, so every Gen 3 game reads the same news
