Currently if an escape timer is interrupted by a character from a different input source then the new character is discarded and the function returns '\e' (which will be discarded by the level above). It is hard to see why this would ever be the desired behaviour. Fix this to return the new character rather than the '\e'. This is a bigger refactor than might be expected because the new character needs to go through escape sequence detection. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
