use `rea update` to update it. Running setup through `npx` again selects the pinned
package-runner command. Do not register paths inside npm's temporary package cache.
### npm workspace errors before REA starts
An `npx` launch can inspect the caller's npm project before executing REA. For
example, a direct dependency whose override conflicts with its declared spec
can cause npm's `EOVERRIDE`, even when the requested REA package is already
cached. This is a package-runner failure: REA has not started and cannot return
an MCP error. [#3690](https://github.com/morluto/rea/issues/3690) reproduced it
outside OpenCode as well as through that client's workspace-default launch.
Use the direct global-installation setup flow above to replace the affected
package-runner registration, then restart the client. If REA is already installed
globally, run that installed `rea setup --client <client-id> --dry-run`, review
the direct launcher in the plan, and apply the approved scope. Installing a
global copy alone does not change an existing registration. Keep the client's
working directory: changing it to bypass npm inspection can change the meaning
of relative target paths. A direct REA entrypoint preserves that directory
without asking npm to resolve the workspace's dependency graph.
### Global installation wrapper
The optional curl wrapper installs only the global npm package:
